He wrote the companion book for the BBC TV series Alien Empire. His current work includes the curation of the type specimens of bees and the recently acquired G Roche collection of bees from the Middle and Far East, and a study of specialised pollen-handling structures on the mouthparts of bees associated with flowers with deep, narrow corolla tubes.
