Dr Paris Stefanoudis: Response
"Kurt Jackson's artwork perfectly encapsulates the rich diversity of life found in urban aquatic environments. This work brings back memories of a past project we conducted in the River Thames where we trialed types of fyke nets in order to recommend those that reduce numbers of invasive mitten crabs, while assisting in the conservation of eels. Drawing a parallel to Kurt Jackson's work and the often-unnoticed urban biodiversity, we also found large volumes of submerged litter, which until then was out of sight, and hence, out of mind."
