About the event

Rocks. Beats. Geological bodies. Stone circles. Copper mining. A fun, loud and lyrical smash-fest, with projection design from award-winning Limbic Cinema. 

With copper having jet-fuelled technology for the last 10,000 years, a performer and sound artist playfully duet to deep-time techno, metamorphic soundscapes and the Internet of Things. Neolithic flint tools smash stones and laptops in this wildly physical journey to the origins – and 21st century challenges – of mining.

Megalith is presented by the Schwarzman Centre and MECHANIMAL, in collaboration with the Museum of Natural History. Please note this event is taking place at the Museum, and not at the Schwarzman Centre.

Suitable for adults and young people over 12. Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult. The performance may contain loud noises, flashing lights, and occasional explicit language.

About the performer

MECHANIMAL is a multi-award-winning creative company based in Bristol, presenting live performance and immersive experiences that explore life on a changing planet. . The company, led by creative director Tom Bailey, tours work both in the UK and internationally, recently presenting work in the UK, Norway, China and Colombia. Megalith is kindly supported by FAMOS, Arts Council England, Professor Jon Blundy and the Oxford Cultural Programme.
