Dr Shengyu Wang

Research summary

Sr Shengyu Wang is a palaeontologist working on exceptionally preserved insect fossils from the Yanliao and Jehol biotas. Her research focuses on the taphonomic mechanisms responsible for soft-tissue preservation, with particular emphasis on fossil organic preservation and the biological signals retained in compression fossils, such as insect pigments and other organic residues. She is also interested in the role of clay minerals and organic–mineral interactions during fossilisation. Her work aims to improve our understanding of how biological information is preserved in exceptionally preserved insect fossils through deep time.
