Louis Lofthouse

Role summary

Louis is responsible for the day-to-day management of OUMNH’s British insect collections, which includes collections care, cataloguing, digitisation, processing loan requests, managing volunteer projects, collections development, hosting visitors and answering enquiries. He also assists with curatorial projects across other invertebrate and vertebrate groups and he enjoys making collections accessible through outreach and tours.

CV

Louis started volunteering in OUMNH’s Life Department in 2018, with a focus on dried entomological collections projects, historic material and recently donated entomological specimens. During this time he developed an interest in Hymenoptera. Following this he worked for three years as Collections Assistant and Outreach Officer on the HOPE for the Future Project at OUMNH, re-curating one million British insect specimens as part of a small team. He also worked for Oxford University Department of Biology as a Research Assistant on the Darwin Tree of Life Project, working on collections of genomic voucher specimens. Louis joined the OUMNH Life Department again as Collections Assistant in 2024, taking up responsibility for the British insect collections.
