Dr Pont assists the entomology team with the curation of the Diptera (Insecta) collection, especially the families Muscidae, Sepsidae and Empididae, and assists with enquiries relating to the Diptera. More generally, he carries out research into the taxonomy and systematics of the Old World species of the families Muscidae and Fanniidae, and has authored some 330 research papers and books. He continues to make field collections of Muscidae and Fanniidae.
