Dr Paris Stefanoudis

Research summary

Paris is a marine ecologist working on projects with a biodiversity and conservation focus that produce policy-relevant outputs. His research portfolio includes biodiversity assessments of ultra-deep underwater mountains, plastic pollution in the Thames Estuary and conservation of endangered fish. Since 2017 his research focus is on the biodiversity, connectivity, and conservation of tropical deep reef ecosystems, working with the NGO Nekton Foundation to explore and characterise deep reefs in the central Western Atlantic and in various locations across the Western and Central Indian Ocean region. To accomplish that Paris is collecting and processing large datasets of marine imagery and biological samples. Throughout his work, Paris is working together with stakeholders and researchers from host nation-states to co-design research projects and co-produce outputs that can be of policy relevance.

CV

Paris received his PhD in 2016 from the National Oceanography Centre, University of Southampton, working on the effect of topographic heterogeneity on abyssal benthic foraminifera. Prior to this, he received an MSc in Aquatic Sciences in 2012 from the University College of London, as well as a BSc in Biology in 2010 from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
