Marina Afonso

Role summary

Marina works exclusively on the Buckland Archive to organise, catalogue and rehouse the collection, while also participating in the Museum's programme of exhibitions and events. Her work on 'Unearthing the Buckland Archive' follows the acquisition of new correspondence, geological notes and family papers, notebooks, watercolours, prints and photographs, which add to the Museum's existing archival material from William and Mary Buckland. She joins the Museum in an important year, with 2024 marking the 200 years since William Buckland described Megalosaurus. Marina's work will contribute to the bicentenary celebrations, including through her contributions to the upcoming exhibition, 'Breaking Ground'.

Marina received a BA in History from the University of Huddersfield and an MSc in Information Management and Preservation from the University of Glasgow. She previously worked at De Montfort University Archive and Special Collections as a Project Archivist.
