Language and summer school groups are very welcome to visit the Museum, but it is essential that all groups formally book in advance. A booking with Oxford University Museum of Natural History includes access to the adjacent Pitt Rivers Museum:

  • Bookings must be made at least 48 hours in advance of visit
  • To make a booking, either complete this form, email education@oum.ox.ac.uk or telephone 01865 282 451
  • The recommended donation per group is £50; donations can be made via cheque on the day, payable to 'the University of Oxford', or online
  • Museum of Natural History Guidebooks: please email education@oum.ox.ac.uk to receive a discount for language guides to the Museum, reduced from £1.50 in the Museum Shop to £1 for pre-orders; this can be paid on the day of the visit
  • Visits to the Museum of Natural History and Pitt Rivers Museum are for a duration of one hour in total

Visiting slots are available:

Monday to Friday: 2pm to 3pm and 3pm to 4pm
Sundays: 10am to 11am and 11am to 12 noon
UK School Holidays: 10am to 11am and 11am to 12 noon

Visiting conditions:

  • We can only accommodate 75 students per slot, so book early to avoid disappointment
  • We will email you a booking confirmation – without this you will not be allowed entry
  • Each language school/booking agency can book a maximum of two visits per week
  • No groups are admitted at any other times due to school bookings and family activities
  • Group leaders must supervise groups at all times in both museums
  • For students under 18, a staff/student ratio of 1:10 or higher is required

Please be aware that groups that have not booked will not be admitted to the Museums. Attempts to enter the Museum without pre-booking, or by splitting groups into smaller numbers, will result in a ban for your organisation on any further visits.
