Pangolins are among the world’s most extraordinary and unusual mammals, instantly recognizable by their armor of overlapping keratin scales. Yet these remarkable creatures are also among the most threatened species on Earth. This talk will take you into the fascinating world of pangolins — exploring their evolution, unique adaptations, and natural history. It will examine how humans have valued pangolins throughout history, from cultural significance to the use and trade of the animals and their derivatives, and the profound impact exploitation and other threats have had on their survival. It will also explore conservation efforts of the past 15 years and consider what the future holds for pangolins — and what it will take to secure their place in the wild.
